Extension
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Fibonacci Price & Time Projections
Definition
An impulse wave that is significantly longer than the other impulse waves of the same degree, containing its own clearly visible ve-wave sub-structure.
Extension in plain English
In Elliott Wave Theory, a big trending move is built from smaller 'impulse' waves, and normally those pieces are roughly comparable in size. An extension is when ONE of those pieces stretches way out and becomes the giant of the group — and when you zoom in, you can see it's actually made of its own five smaller waves, like a big Lego block that's really five little blocks snapped together. Think of a runner who cruises steadily, then suddenly floors it for one huge burst that covers more ground than the rest combined; that burst is the extension, and it tells traders where the real power in the trend lives.
