Guideline
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Rule Of Alternation & Channeling Guidelines
Definition
A strong tendency in wave behaviour that is frequently but not always observed. Violation of a guideline is a diagnostic signal, not a count invalidation.
Guideline in plain English
A guideline is a 'usually true' tendency — something that happens often enough to be useful, but not a law that can never be broken. This is different from a hard rule: break a rule and your whole wave count is wrong, but break a guideline and it's just a yellow flag telling you to double-check, not a red one saying you're wrong. It's like 'most people are hungry by dinnertime' — a reliable pattern worth planning around, but nobody's plan collapses just because one person isn't.
