FRM Part 1 Glossary

The conditional probability of default over the next instant given survival to now (the default intensity λ); with constant λ, survival to t is e^(-lambdat) and cumulative default is 1 - e^(-lambdat). Distinct from the unconditional probability of defaulting in a future period, which must be weighted by survival to that period.
