Argument
GMAT glossary · Verbal Reasoning
Definition
A set of statements where premises provide reasons to accept a conclusion.
Argument in plain English
An argument, in this sense, isn't a fight, it's an attempt to convince you of something using reasons. The thing it wants you to believe is the conclusion, and the reasons offered as support are the premises. It's like a courtroom: the lawyer's final claim ('my client is innocent') is the conclusion, and each piece of evidence is a premise meant to back it up. Spotting which part is the conclusion and which parts are doing the supporting is the whole game in GMAT reasoning questions.
