Main Point Question

LSAT Glossary

A Reading Comprehension question type that asks for the central thesis or overall purpose of the passage. Stems: "Which most accurately expresses the main point?" / "The primary purpose of the passage is to..." The required mental work is to articulate the main point in one's own words before looking at the choices, then match. The three common traps are too narrow (captures only one paragraph or supporting point), too broad (overgeneralizes beyond the passage), and wrong emphasis (gets the topic right but mischaracterizes the author's stance).
