Big Five personality (OCEAN) in plain English
Psychologists wanted one honest, evidence-backed way to describe anyone's personality, and after decades of data the same five broad traits kept showing up — so they became the 'Big Five.' The word OCEAN is just a memory trick for them: Openness (curiosity and love of new ideas), Conscientiousness (organized and dependable), Extraversion (energized by people), Agreeableness (kind and cooperative), and Neuroticism (how easily you feel anxious or upset). Think of each trait as its own slider from low to high, and everyone sits somewhere on all five — that combination is your personality 'profile.' They're powerful because they predict real things like job performance and relationships across many different cultures.
