Aggressive Seller
Order Flow Analysis glossary · Footprint & Delta Analysis
Definition
A participant who accepts the bid price to liquidate or initiate a short immediately, hitting a passive buyer's resting bid by submitting a market order or marketable limit order. Aggressive sells populate the bid volume column of the footprint at the executed price. The footprint signature of aggressive selling is large bid-volume numbers at successively lower prices.
Aggressive Seller in plain English
An aggressive seller is someone in such a hurry to sell that they won't wait for a good price — they grab whatever buyers are currently offering right now. Picture a crowded flea market: instead of setting out your item and waiting, you walk up to the buyer already holding out cash and take their price on the spot. On a footprint chart these trades pile up in the 'bid' column, and when you see big bid numbers stacking at lower and lower prices, that's the fingerprint of sellers pounding the market down.
