Equity Realization (EqR)

Poker Theory Glossary

The ratio of a hand's actual expected value to its raw equity share of the pot: mathrmEqR = mathrmEV/(mathrmequity× P). Suited and connected hands realise more than offsuit broadways because they fold cheaply when they miss, barrel when they improve, and are not dominated top-pair. Out of position, EqR falls. When calling, divide required equity by EqR: a 30.8% raw price at mathrmEqR=0.80 is an effective 38% requirement. Position is the dominant EqR variable.
