Hurdle Rate

Private Credit Glossary

Minimum return rate (typically a 7%–8% preferred return in private debt; 8% standard in private equity) that the fund must deliver to LPs before the GP begins earning carried interest. Paired with a catch-up: once the hurdle is met, the GP receives 100% (or 80%–100%) of subsequent distributions until the agreed carry split (e.g., 80/20) is restored on aggregate profits.
