Due Diligence in plain English
Due diligence is the deep background check you run on a company before buying it — the business version of getting a used car inspected before you hand over the cash. Instead of trusting the seller's rosy pitch, a team digs through everything to find hidden problems: are the sales real and repeatable (commercial), do the financial statements hold up (financial), are there lawsuits or shaky contracts (legal), any tax landmines (tax), does the operation actually run well (operational), and are there environmental or ethical risks (ESG). The whole point is simple: know exactly what you're buying — and what could blow up — before your money is on the line, not after.
