Never divide by a variable expression

SAT Glossary

The KomFi rule that dividing both sides of an equation by an expression containing a variable silently assumes that expression is nonzero and throws away a solution — dividing x^2 = 3x by x loses x = 0. The correct move is always to factor: x(x-3)=0. The book states the rule has no exceptions and is worth an item or two per form.
