The vanishing variable
SAT Glossary
When a=c the variable disappears from a linear equation and what remains is a statement about numbers — either false (no solution) or true (all x). The book stresses this is not an error but information: students who reach 0=7 conclude they blundered and restart, burning ninety seconds, when the correct conclusion is 'no solution, done.'
