Biometrics
U.S. Naturalization Test (2025 Standard) glossary · English
Definition
Fingerprints, photo, signature.
Biometrics in plain English
Biometrics simply means physical facts about your body that are uniquely yours, used to confirm you are really you. In the naturalization process it means your fingerprints, your photo, and your signature, which USCIS collects at a scheduled appointment. It's the same idea as unlocking a phone with your fingerprint or face: your body becomes the password because no one else has the exact same one. This step lets the government run a background check and make sure your identity matches your application.
