According to the GARP Code of Conduct, if a risk professional becomes aware of a significant conflict of interest, their primary responsibility is to:

  1. Ignore the conflict if it is unlikely to be discovered by regulators.
  2. Seek to profit from the conflict before disclosing it to the firm.
  3. Disclose the conflict to the appropriate parties and, if necessary, recuse themselves from the decision-making process.
  4. Immediately resign from their position to avoid any appearance of impropriety.
