A freight logistics company offers two cargo shipping rate schedules, Schedule X and Schedule Y, based on shipment weight w in tons.
Under Schedule X, shipments weighing up to 10 tons cost a flat fee of $300; shipments weighing more than 10 tons but at most 50 tons cost $300 plus $25 per ton for each ton in excess of 10 tons; and shipments weighing more than 50 tons cost $1,300 plus $40 per ton for each ton in excess of 50 tons. Under Schedule Y, shipments weighing up to 20 tons cost a flat fee of $500; shipments weighing more than 20 tons but at most 60 tons cost $500 plus $20 per ton for each ton in excess of 20 tons; and shipments weighing more than 60 tons cost $1,300 plus $35 per ton for each ton in excess of 60 tons.
