Argument: 'Most successful CEOs sleep fewer than six hours a night. Therefore, if you want to become a successful CEO, you should reduce your sleep to fewer than six hours.'

What is the flaw?

  1. It ignores the fact that many unsuccessful people also sleep fewer than six hours a night.
  2. It draws a conclusion about the population of all aspiring CEOs from a sample consisting only of those who already succeeded.
  3. It assumes that a characteristic shared by successful people is the cause of their success.
  4. It assumes that all CEOs have the same biological need for sleep.
  5. It fails to define what 'success' means for a CEO.
