What is the relationship between the spontaneity of a reaction and its rate?

  1. There is no direct relationship between the sign of Δ G and the speed of the reaction.
  2. A very negative Δ G always means the reaction proceeds faster than one with a smaller Δ G.
  3. Spontaneous reactions always occur quickly, regardless of the activation energy involved.
  4. A catalyst can drive a non-spontaneous reaction forward without any external energy input.
