Closing entries

Financial Accounting Glossary

Period-end entries that close temporary accounts (revenues, expenses, and dividends declared) to retained earnings, typically routed through an Income Summary clearing account. Resets temporary accounts to zero so the next period accumulates flows from a clean balance.
