Definition
The denominator is unclear until every equally likely outcome is structured.
Mapping the Sample Space in plain English
Pull Mapping the Sample Space when the denominator is unclear until every equally likely outcome is structured. Clues include Sample space, equally likely, total outcomes, denominator. Blueprint: Build the full sample space first (grid, tree, or systematic list). Mark favorable cells. Probability is favorable over total. Why it beats the long way: A verbal fraction without a mapped space often uses the wrong denominator. Micro-example: Two fair coins: sample space HH, HT, TH, TT. P(exactly one head) marks HT and TH, so 2/4=1/2. The mapped grid is the denominator; a verbal fraction without it often uses the wrong total.
