Slot-State Transition Mapping
GMAT glossary · Playbook
Definition
A hybrid that fills position slots while carrying a running state label updated after each filled slot.
Slot-State Transition Mapping in plain English
Pull Slot-State Transition Mapping when slots and state restrictions interact: position rules plus memory of prior picks. Clues include position constraints plus cannot repeat previous, or alternating patterns. Combine slot filling with a running state label; update state after each filled slot. Pure slots ignore memory; pure recursion ignores position caps. The hybrid tracks both so neither constraint is forgotten mid-count. Write the state beside each blank as you fill it. Micro-example: 4-letter codes using A/B/C, position 1 cannot be A, and no letter may repeat the previous one. Fill slot 1 from B,C, then each next slot from the two letters that differ from the current state label.
