Chest-compression fraction
NCLEX-RN glossary · Physiological Adaptation
Definition
The percentage of total resuscitation time during which chest compressions are actively being performed.
Chest-compression fraction in plain English
The RN must minimize interruptions in compressions to maintain the high fraction necessary for effective coronary and cerebral perfusion. The tempting mistake is allowing prolonged pauses for rhythm analysis or advanced airway placement, which significantly reduces the effective perfusion time.
