Mass-casualty triage
NCLEX-RN glossary · Management Of Care
Definition
A disaster response system designed to categorize victims to maximize survival based on available resources and injury severity.
Mass-casualty triage in plain English
It requires a shift from individual client care to utilitarian judgment: 'doing the greatest good for the greatest number.'. The main trap is spending limited resources on 'Expectant' (Black tag) victims during the initial triage phase, which leads to higher overall mortality.
