Renal or hepatic accumulation
NCLEX-RN glossary · Pharmacological And Parenteral Therapies
Definition
The buildup of a drug in the body due to the organ's inability to metabolize or excrete it. It marks the point at which standard therapeutic doses become toxic.
Renal or hepatic accumulation in plain English
It requires close surveillance of organ function labs (Creatinine, ALT) and dosage adjustments to prevent toxicity and organ damage. The main trap is administering a standard prescribed dose to a client who shows clear cues of organ failure, such as jaundice or oliguria.
