Task slack
NCLEX-RN glossary · Management Of Care
Definition
The calculated measurement of time between prioritized clinical activities available for responsive judgment.
Task slack in plain English
Monitoring slack is necessary to ensure the nurse has a sufficient data-driven buffer for emergency response and surveillance. A frequent error is mistaking task slack for idle time rather than a required safety margin for high-intensity clinical judgment.
