Waiting for hypotension in compensated shock
NCLEX-RN glossary · Physiological Adaptation
Definition
A critical failure to act on early signs of shock (tachycardia, tachypnea, cool skin) because the blood pressure is still normal.
Waiting for hypotension in compensated shock in plain English
By the time hypotension occurs, the client has reached uncompensated shock, making resuscitation much more difficult and mortality more likely. The main trap is delaying oxygen or fluid interventions because the systolic blood pressure is still above 90 mm Hg.
