Weighted mastery index
NCLEX-RN glossary · Management Of Care
Definition
An estimate of a candidate's ability measured in logits relative to a 0.00 standard, rather than a raw percentage of correct answers.
Weighted mastery index in plain English
It prevents discouragement by factoring the item difficulty into the estimate; a candidate answering fewer questions correctly can still pass if those items are high-difficulty. The tempting mistake is thinking the test is going poorly because questions feel difficult; perceived difficulty is subjective and does not correlate with the mathematical logit estimate.
