U.S. Naturalization Test (2025 Standard) glossary · English

Definition

Filed, not yet decided.

Pending in plain English

"Pending" just means your application has been turned in but nobody has said yes or no yet — it's sitting in line, being worked on. It's like ordering food and waiting: your order is placed, the kitchen has it, but your plate hasn't come out. For immigration, a case can be pending for months, and that's normal — it doesn't mean something is wrong, only that a decision hasn't been made.
