Early amortization

CFA Level I Glossary

Early amortization is a trigger-driven end to a credit-card ABS revolving period. When triggers fire (for example credit deterioration), principal collections are diverted to pay investors down while protection still remains. It shortens the deal to protect noteholders. Do not confuse it with the planned controlled amortization phase that occurs in normal wind-down.
