Enterprise value

CFA Level I Glossary

Enterprise value is the value of the operating firm to all capital providers. A common calculation is market capitalization plus interest-bearing debt and preferred equity, minus cash and equivalents. It is the theoretical takeover price of operations before financing details. Confusing EV with equity market cap alone, or forgetting to subtract cash, is a frequent error in multiples work.
