Term: Rebalancing

CFA Level I Glossary

Rebalancing restores portfolio weights to the target allocation set in the investment policy statement after market moves or cash flows drift the mix. It enforces discipline and maintains the intended risk profile. Calendar and threshold rules are common implementations. Rebalancing is not the same as revising the strategic asset allocation itself.
