Combined Work Rate
GMAT glossary · Quantitative Reasoning
Definition
The sum of individual job-per-time rates when workers operate together.
Combined Work Rate in plain English
Convert each worker's time into a fraction of one job per unit of time, add the rates, and invert only at the end. Times themselves cannot be added because faster workers contribute more per hour.
