Data Sufficiency
GMAT glossary · Data Insights
Definition
A Data Insights question type that asks whether one statement, both statements together, or neither provides enough information to answer the question uniquely.
Data Sufficiency in plain English
Data Sufficiency asks “Can this be determined?” rather than “What is the final number?” Test Statement (1) by itself, then reset and test Statement (2) by itself. A statement is sufficient only if every case allowed by that statement produces the same answer to the stem. If each statement leaves multiple answers, combine them and test again. Do not quietly carry information from one statement into the other during the separate tests.
