Range (Functions)
GMAT glossary · Verbal Reasoning
Definition
The set of all possible outputs of a function.
Range (Functions) in plain English
A function is like a machine: you feed it an input and it spits out an output. The range is simply the collection of ALL the outputs it can possibly spit out. For the machine 'square the number,' you can feed in anything, but it never gives back a negative, so its range is all numbers zero and up. (Don't mix this up with the range in statistics, which is a totally different idea; same word, different job.)
