Recursive Mapping

GMAT glossary · Quantitative Reasoning

Definition

Same move as Algebraic Functions & Sequences (Periodic Remainder Heuristic): cycle length C, then remainder , or list A_n-1/A_n-2 until the cycle locks.

Recursive Mapping in plain English

Recursive Mapping is another name for the Periodic Remainder Heuristic: list until a cycle appears, then jump with the remainder. Micro-example: cycle C=4, 50th term → remainder 2, so take the 2nd term in the cycle.
