Series
GMAT glossary · Verbal Reasoning
Definition
The sum of the terms of a sequence.
Series in plain English
A sequence is just a list of numbers in order, like 2, 4, 6, 8. A series is what you get when you stop listing them and start adding them all up: 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 20. Think of a sequence as the individual steps you take on a staircase, and the series as the total height you've climbed once you add every step together. So whenever a problem asks for the 'sum' of a pattern of numbers, it's really asking about a series.
