Flaw Identification
LSAT glossary · Logical Reasoning
Definition
The most important LSAT Logical Reasoning question type, asking students to describe the specific reasoning error in the stimulus. Mastering flaw types is the foundation for all other LR question types.
Flaw Identification in plain English
A Flaw Identification question hands you an argument that sounds okay at first but has a hidden hole in its reasoning, and asks you to name exactly what went wrong. It's like being a referee who has to say not just 'that's a foul' but WHICH rule was broken. This is the most important skill on the whole section because the same handful of reasoning mistakes show up again and again — once you can spot them instantly here, you'll recognize them lurking inside almost every other question type too.
