Resolve the Discrepancy

LSAT glossary · Logical Reasoning

Definition

An LR question type presenting two apparently contradictory facts and asking which answer choice explains how both can be true simultaneously.

Resolve the Discrepancy in plain English

This question type shows you two facts that seem to clash — like 'the store dropped its prices' and yet 'the store made more money than ever' — and asks which answer choice makes both make sense at the same time. You're not proving anyone wrong; you're the detective who finds the missing piece that lets two weird facts live together peacefully (maybe the lower prices brought in way more customers). The correct answer explains the surprise without contradicting either fact; wrong answers usually deepen the mystery or just repeat one side of it.
