Contrast-associated risk
NCLEX-RN glossary · Reduction Of Risk Potential
Definition
The potential for acute kidney injury or severe allergic reactions following the administration of intravenous contrast media.
Contrast-associated risk in plain English
The RN must assess renal function labs and relevant medication history prior to contrast exposure to ensure safety. A common mistake is proceeding with contrast administration in a client with unstable renal labs because the diagnostic procedure is considered urgent.
