Gravity infusion rate
NCLEX-RN glossary · Pharmacological And Parenteral Therapies
Definition
The calculation of drops per minute derived from total volume, time, and drop factor when infusion pumps are not utilized.
Gravity infusion rate in plain English
RNs must accurately calculate gravity rates to ensure fluid delivery remains within safe physiological boundaries without over-infusion risk. The tempting mistake is failing to re-verify the gravity rate when the client's limb position or IV site status changes.
