Weight-based liquid dose
NCLEX-RN glossary · Pharmacological And Parenteral Therapies
Definition
A dosage calculation where the final volume in mL equals the required dose divided by the concentration provided.
Weight-based liquid dose in plain English
Crucial for pediatric and high-alert medication safety where a small error in mL can result in a massive overdose. A frequent error is inverting the calculation (dividing concentration by dose) or failing to convert units before the final division.
