Flat
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Corrective Structures & Sub Wave Math
Definition
A corrective pattern (3-3-5) where Wave B approximately retraces Wave A and Wave C approximately reaches Wave A's extreme, producing a sideways correction.
Flat in plain English
A flat is a 'catch your breath' pause in a trend that moves mostly sideways instead of sharply against it. It comes in three parts labeled A, B, C: price dips (A), then B climbs back up to roughly where A began (that near-full recovery is what makes it 'flat'), and finally C dips again to about the same low as A. Think of a ball rolling along a mostly level floor with tiny bumps rather than tumbling down a hill — the trend is resting, not reversing.
