Range (Statistics)
GMAT glossary · Quantitative Reasoning
Definition
Maximum value minus minimum value.
Range (Statistics) in plain English
The range tells you how spread out a set of numbers is, and it's the simplest measure of spread there is: just take the biggest value and subtract the smallest. If your test scores were 70, 85, and 95, the range is 95 - 70 = 25. It's like measuring a group of friends by the height gap between the tallest and shortest person, quick, but it only looks at the two extremes and ignores everyone in between.
