Executive
U.S. Naturalization Test (2025 Standard) glossary · Civics
Definition
The branch that carries out the laws.
Executive in plain English
Making a law and actually carrying it out are two different jobs. The executive is the branch of government whose job is to DO — to enforce and put into action the laws that get written. Think of a sports league: one group writes the rulebook, but the referees on the field are the ones who apply those rules in real time. The executive is the referee side of government.
