Auction failure

Volume Profile Analysis Glossary

A localized chart artifact where price briefly probes a high or low, prints little or no volume at the extreme, and retreats — leaving an 'unfinished' extreme (spike, wick, or stop-driven sweep). Failed auctions act as magnets: price tends to return to test them properly, which has direct implications for stop and target placement.
