Definition
A market phase in which large participants build positions at a price level, typically without causing substantial directional movement. Characterized by range-bound price action with elevated volume.
Accumulation in plain English
Accumulation is the quiet phase where big players (funds, institutions) slowly build up a large position by buying steadily — without spooking the market into rising. If they bought all at once, the price would spike and they'd pay more, so they nibble patiently while the price drifts sideways in a range, even though trading volume is unusually high. Picture someone trying to buy every ticket to a small concert without driving up the price: they grab a few at a time, casually, so nobody notices demand is huge. The tell is a flat, boring chart hiding a lot of activity underneath.
