Definition
A Volume Profile with a heavy bulge at the bottom and a thin tail extending higher; typical of long liquidation or initiative selling in which price rallied early, met aggressive sellers, and spent the remainder of the session establishing value at the lower levels while the upper tail failed to attract participation.
b-shape profile in plain English
A Volume Profile is a sideways bar chart showing how much trading happened at each price level, and a 'b-shape' one looks like the letter b — a fat lump of trading near the bottom with a thin stalk poking up top. That shape usually tells a story: the price shot up early, ran into a wall of eager sellers, got knocked down, and then spent the rest of the day settling and doing most of its business at the lower prices. The skinny upper tail is the giveaway — hardly anyone wanted to trade up there, so that high never really 'stuck.'
