Non-trend day (inside day)
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Auction Theory & Market Profile (TPO)
Definition
A session that trades entirely inside the prior session's range on below-average volume; typically produces poor trade quality.
Non-trend day (inside day) in plain English
Some days the market just naps. A non-trend or 'inside' day is one where every price the whole session stays squeezed inside yesterday's high-and-low range, and fewer shares or contracts change hands than usual. Think of a day where nobody new shows up to the market: the crowd just shuffles around inside the space it already staked out yesterday, so there's no fresh direction to trade with confidence. That's why traders usually sit these out — with everyone this indecisive, breakouts fizzle and it's easy to get chopped up.
