Other timeframe trader (OTF)
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Auction Theory & Market Profile (TPO)
Definition
Market participant whose holding horizon exceeds the current session — typically institutions, swing traders, and longer-term investors. Their activity creates structural volume nodes.
Other timeframe trader (OTF) in plain English
An 'other timeframe trader' is anyone whose plan stretches beyond today — big institutions, swing traders, and long-term investors who don't care about a single afternoon's wiggles. Because they buy or sell huge amounts over hours or days, they leave heavy footprints: prices where an enormous amount of trading piled up (a 'volume node' just means a price level where lots of shares or contracts changed hands). It's the difference between a kid buying one snack and a warehouse restocking a whole aisle — the big player's activity shapes the landscape everyone else navigates.
