Slippage
Volume Profile Analysis glossary · Auction Theory & Market Profile (TPO)
Definition
The difference between the expected execution price of an order and the actual execution price. Worst on stop orders during volatile moves.
Slippage in plain English
Slippage is the gap between the price you THOUGHT you'd get and the price you ACTUALLY got. Prices move constantly, so in the split second between hitting 'buy' and the trade filling, the price can shift — like reaching for the last $5 concert ticket only to find it's $6 by the time you grab it. It's worst during fast, jumpy markets, especially with stop orders that fire automatically the moment things are already moving hard.
