Invalidation Level
Elliott Wave Theory glossary · Alternation & Channeling Guidelines
Definition
The price at which a preferred wave count becomes provably incorrect (typically where a cardinal rule would be violated). Used as a risk management stop.
Invalidation Level in plain English
Every wave count is really a best-guess story about what the market is doing, and Elliott Wave has a few hard rules that story must obey (for example, wave 4 can't overlap wave 1's territory in a normal impulse). The invalidation level is the exact price where, if the market touches it, one of those rules would be broken — proving your count was flat wrong. Think of it as the 'I was mistaken' line drawn in the sand before you even enter the trade. Traders place their stop-loss right there, so if price hits it they exit quickly with a small, pre-planned loss instead of stubbornly hoping.
